You should be comfortable with Basic / common DML and DDL, for example the "add column" clause of the "alter table" statement:
As a developer (VB / SQL Server, J2EE / Weblogic / Oracle) for 8 years and then as a DBA / Infrastructure Engineer for 5 years this fairly generic SQL background knowledge is like 2nd nature for me.
