Still more bad news about global warming - the polar ice caps are melting faster than we thought:
Indicateur majeur du changement climatique actuel
More evidence that global warming is happening even faster than the climate scientists feared!?
But still the rich businesses block poltical movements to cut in C02?
As one leading and highly respected American scientist pointed out, there is little democracy now as money = power and big business does care about global warming :(
But still the rich businesses block poltical movements to cut in C02?
As one leading and highly respected American scientist pointed out, there is little democracy now as money = power and big business does care about global warming :(
James Hansen, a climate modeller with Nasa, told the Guardian today that corporate lobbying has undermined democratic attempts to curb carbon pollution. "The democratic process doesn't quite seem to be working," he said.
Speaking on the eve of joining a protest against the headquarters of power firm E.ON in Coventry, Hansen said: "The first action that people should take is to use the democratic process. What is frustrating people, me included, is that democratic action affects elections but what we get then from political leaders is greenwash.
"The democratic process is supposed to be one person one vote, but it turns out that money is talking louder than the votes. So, I'm not surprised that people are getting frustrated. I think that peaceful demonstration is not out of order, because we're running out of time."

Berlusconi making a joke of equal opportunities - he is oh sooo funny :(
This is from the BBC:
Critics have dismissed her as a lightweight - she says her main hobby is "collecting pens" - and have questioned her suitability to be equal opportunities minister after a career as a topless model.
But she is suing an Italian comedienne who joked she had earned her cabinet position by giving sexual favours to Mr Berlusconi.
And she insists: "The right has been more courageous [than the left] in trusting the young and women with important roles. It is not written anywhere that women have to make do with co-ordinating feminist movements."
Ms Carfagna recently released a book in which she listed her right-wing female role models, including former British leader Margaret Thatcher, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Sarah Palin, the US vice-presidential hopeful.
Crise Financiere : Greenspan Complimente Obama
Despite Wall Streets efforts to blame their unbelievable losses (trillions of dollars!?) on Washington, Allan Greenspan has complemented Obama's government:
Also in a recent FT interview, Greenspan has advocated nationalisation (i.e. the big bank are fundamentally bankrupt and it is not a short term liquidity problem as the city would like to believe);
Also in a recent FT interview, Greenspan has advocated nationalisation (i.e. the big bank are fundamentally bankrupt and it is not a short term liquidity problem as the city would like to believe);
Greenspan backs bank nationalisation

The US government may have to nationalise some banks on a temporary basis to fix the financial system and restore the flow of credit, Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve chairman, has told the Financial Times.
In an interview, Mr Greenspan, who for decades was regarded as the high priest of laisser-faire capitalism, said nationalisation could be the least bad option left for policymakers.
”It may be necessary to temporarily nationalise some banks in order to facilitate a swift and orderly restructuring,” he said. “I understand that once in a hundred years this is what you do.”
Mr Greenspan’s comments capped a frenetic day in which policymakers across the political spectrum appeared to be moving towards accepting some form of bank nationalisation.
“We should be focusing on what works,” Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina, told the FT. “We cannot keep pouring good money after bad.” He added, “If nationalisation is what works, then we should do it.”

The dangers of religious fundamentalists!
To be honest, I object to many of the current pope's ideology, unfortunately like America under Bush, the catholic church is now lead by a Christian fundamentalist.
To me this is incredible dangerous. Whilst saddened and worried by this, I am pleased that governments and professional bodies across Europe are prepared to standup to the church:

ASP.net Hello World as a webservice

Microsoft had created some great tutorial videos for asp.net. This one starts by talking you through the default / template "Hello World" webservice within VS2005.
using System;
using System.Data;
using System.Web;
using System.Collections;
using System.Web.Services;
using System.Web.Services.Protocols;
using System.ComponentModel;
//Links on WSDL FYI
//http://www.w3.org/TR/wsdl
//http://www.w3schools.com/wsdl/default.asp
namespace WebServiceCSharp
{
///
/// Web service class Service1 with attributes describing the service and its binding.
///
[WebService(Namespace = "http://howdoi.org/", Description = "This is a sample service for How Do I videos.", Name = "MyService")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
[ToolboxItem(false)]
public class Service1 : System.Web.Services.WebService
{
///
/// Simple web method w/o parameters that returns a string.
///
[WebMethod]
public string HelloWorld()
{
return "Hello World";
}
}
}
In the video he example the use of the above WebService, WebServiceBinding, WebMethod attributes. Next he starts /tests this basic webservice (as shown in the screen shot) from Solution Explorer, right click on .asmx file and choose "view in browser".
From here VS will create a test page (http://localhost:/Service1.asmx)
From here there is a link to invoke / test the HelloWorld method within our service (http://localhost:/Service1.asmx/HelloWorld)
This returns an xml version of HelloWorld:

french wikipedia
I expect you are already familiar and may already be a regular user of the wikipedia website.
However I want to write in praise of this great site and how I am starting to use it in a new way.. recently I have started regular use of the french version http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accueil
What has surprised me is the quality of the writing. Despite the limitations of my french, unlike many other french language websites, I can read french wikipedia and understand/learn interesting new ideas in a foreign language!!
Why? In brief because of the style of writing is always clear, concise and without any slang or colloquialisms.. absolute great for me.
For example, following a recent radio program about the 1960s model Nico, I was able to learn more about Nico, The Velvet Underground and David Warhol all in French :)
The diversity and range of articles is phenomial, not just the mainstream and popular but more obscure articles e.g. one of my old math professors Marcus Du Sautoy:
